A predominantly sandy beach patrolled by lifeguards, it is great for both swimming and paddling, and also features donkey rides and kids' entertainment in the summer. The famous pier (the shortest in Britain) is just a few short steps away and there are various shops and cafes close by. The town itself is now a popular tourist destination, and offers a fine range of things to do and places to eat, including the local lighthouses, a Napoleonic Fort, Brean Down bird garden and a 14th century church.
