The local area around Camping Interlude & Aquitaine
The site is a 20 minute walk from the quaint village of Le Bois Plage-en-Re which offers shops, bars, restaurants and an excellent market. The nearest beach to site (a five minute walk) is sandy and gently shelving. Watersports enthusiasts will enjoy the sailing, canoeing and windsurfing facilities here. Please note that the Ile de Re is connected to the mainland by a toll bridge.
St Marie beach (3mls) is particularly beautiful and the nature reserve at Les Portes, to the north of the island, is very interesting. Don’t miss La Rochelle Aquarium, said to be the best in Europe. Make a day of it and catch the ferry from La Rochelle to the Ile d’Aix where Napoleon spent his last hours as a prisoner of the British.
