This site is three quarters of a mile from Merlin Plage, and four miles from St Jean-de-Monts. The colourful fishing port of St Gilles-Croix-de-Vie, with its large expanse of golden sand at the Grand Plage, is ten minutes away by car. Further south, Les Sables d’Olonne has a variety of stylish shops and restaurants. Take a boat trip to the traffic-free island of Ile d’Yeu, an island of granite cliffs and rocky creeks and the beautiful rocky Côte Sauvage. La Forêt is a ten-minute walk from the village of St Julien-des-Landes, with a peaceful, rural setting in the parklands of a château. It has the feel of a country estate and caters for the whole family. There’s plenty of space for the children to play, and two pools set either side of the château. There are three lakes for fishing and attractively converted ivy-clad stables house the bar and all of the main facilities. This coast is renowned for its fabulous sandy beaches. As you approach the magnificent château through an avenue of poplar trees, you’ll be impressed by the beautiful, peaceful countryside setting of La Garangeoire. The family run campsite, a member of the prestigious Castels chain, is only one mile from St Julien-des-Landes and fifteen minutes drive from the beach. The lovely lake behind the château, surrounded by woodland and green meadows, provides an idyllic setting for hiring a pedalo. The château’s estate buildings have been tastefully converted and now house a new bar and restaurant. For peace and quiet, try the secluded rocky coves along the coast at Sion-sur-l’Océan. Just a little way from the coast road, La Yole also offers you a beautiful beach nearby and two super resorts just down the road. | A peaceful, but basic parc, ideally suited to young families and mature couples, with a lovely beach facing famous Fort Boyard. While the island itself can have busy traffic, the parc is located in a quiet area of St. Georges D’Oléron, with good access to the many cyclist-only roads that run around the island. The ‘Plaisance’ beach offers a broad sweep of golden sand and the unusual sight of Fort Boyard close by. Out and about, you are just 1km from the Saumonards forest, and you will find the town itself to be a quaint little place, dedicated to fishing and the oyster industry. Domaine D’Oléron is ideal for those families who intend to visit attractions off parc during their stay, with many beautiful beaches in easy reach. Camping la Forêt is a pleasant parc with a friendly, family atmosphere and good facilities. The pool area is quaint, with its small fountain and lovely sunbathing terrace, which is the ideal place to laze in the sun while the children enjoy the heated pools. And when you’re ready for the long, sandy beach, you’ll find it just a short stroll away down a sandy path through the pine forest. There are plenty of other beaches nearby too, some sandy and sheltered, while others have small coves and rock pools. For a little more excitement, you can visit St. Jean-de-Monts to the south, with its excellent range of restaurants, and you’ll find the attractive resort of Notre-Dame-de-Monts just a couple of kilometres away. | |||

This is a really attractive and relaxing parc, which is especially suited to young families thanks to the excellent shade given to most pitches by the tall pines throughout the parc. The nearest beach is pleasant if rocky, but you’ll also find a beautiful sandy beach just a few minutes’ drive away. Within the parc itself, there’s a popular terrace bar which overlooks the lovely L-shaped pool, where evening entertainment takes place in high season. Close by you’ll find the charming little town of Jard, with a wide range of shops, cafés and restaurants lining the winding narrow streets, as well as a small yachting port. Add to all this some day trips to Les Sables d’Olonne, La Rochelle and Luçon and you have all the ingredients for a memorable family holiday. | |||
